whoa, if that happens, color me impressed.  if it does 24/96 successfully they could be selling the hottest thing to hit the recording world since...dat.

* Audiophile quality D/A converter
 * S/PDIF input and outputs

So I guess this means it doesn't have an "audiophile quality" A/D?  Given the history of their previous devices, I'll believe it when I hear the A/D and/or the S/PDIF input record without artifacts.

yeah, most of these things look amazing until they come out...then they're just as plagued with problems as the rest of them.  but still, its nice to see companies are trying.  the open source firmware could be a huge benefit tho.

you could ask your wife when it's out if it's ok to buy an mp3 player.

FM Broadcasting?  Does that mean we could broadcast shows whilst recording them?
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

wow - that does look good on paper - even beyond show recording applications the scheduled FM recording would be a cool feature {if I'm reading that right} to pick up your favorite radio shows and listen on demand later and be able to skip thru the tracks you didn't want to hear

very interesting,
I posted a while back about an email I sent to neuros about digital in capability.
They replied no there was nothing in the works at all.
Now I see from the above threads it is going to happen.
That will rock.
Looks like we have a nomad replacement as long as the digi in
is solid. I love the fact that it is going to be spdif and not optical even.

I love the fact that it is going to be spdif and not optical even.

while you're probably right, if it was an optical connection, they probably would have said "optical in", technically speaking, S/PDIF is defined as a data stream carrying certain information.  whether that digital info is transmitted electronically over a cable, or optically, both are the same S/PDIF data stream.  so it still could be an optical connection, I wouldn't rule anything out until we see more detailed specs and or photos.

digital output is pretty awesome too.  I've always thought that woulda been a tite feature for the NJB3.   Is this supposedly going to be able to record at 24/96?   I didn't see anything on those links that were posted.

Neuros III
$329 MSRP 20GB   Release date TBD
$379 MSRP 40GB

At a glance

The good:

An open/programmable fully featured mp3 player with FM broadcasting, and robust recording features and audiophile playback features

The bad:

Slightly larger than iPod, no color screen, fewer accessories than iPod.

What's it for:

Listening to MP3s on the go or in the car, recording from a variety of sources

Who's it for:

Ethusiasts who want more functionality and customizability from their mp3 player.

The bottom line (why did Neuros introduce):

To serve the need for an enthusiast/professional mp3 player and digital recording device that could be used by recording professionals, musicians, and DJs as well as any enthusiast that just want more control over their listening experience

Vision for product

Builds on the vision for the Neuros I & II but improving in important areas to better realize the vision for a digital audio computer.

For example, we’ve received numerous requests from universities who want to program with the Neuros so they can use the device for timed recording of bird sounds, others for testing, etc.  Recording enthusiasts want multi-track recording.  Lots of other folks want better functioning database browsing with customizable XI menus, etc.

the FM transmitter function will probably be no different than on the current Neuros model. Does make it easy to listen to your show on the way home though...
