Topic: burner doesn't register discs?!

I just replaced a CD burner because the thing wasn't registering discs anymore, not for burning or playback. I've been using the new one for a few days now and now it's gone caput, same thing.

Something tells me it must be something else causing the trouble but I have no idea what. Is it possible that this 2nd burner burnt out so quickly?
