making DVD-Video format DVD-Rs

(1/2) > >>

Sean Gallemore:
I want to take regular .avi and .mpg files and burn them onto a disc that a stand alone DVD Video player will read.  I've gathered that these files need to be converted into .vob files and the like.  Nero tells me I can do it but I need to buy a $25 plug-in first. Anyone know of an easy/free way to do this?

I have an 8x DVD+/- burner

much love

***EDIT***

This is the guide
it's worked well for me so far.  But the trial versions of these programs won't last long

TMPEnc Dvd Author. super easy!

Sean Gallemore:
gonna give it a whirl and see if this twirl is fo real

Sean Gallemore:
TMPEnc Dvd Author only handles MGEG-1 and MPEG-2 files, so if you have any other mpeg or avi files the process becomes more tedious.  I've found a program (Winmpg) to convert my avi file to mpeg-2, then hopefully I can use DVD author.  I'll repot back with results.

i've heard that many use TMPEnc for encoding.  i could have sworn it works with .avi files.
