Title: Extremely strange SLA problem....
Post by: Nick Graham on November 16, 2005, 12:01:16 PM
Last night I was testing all my gear to get ready for Mule tonight (as I do the night before every show), and ran into a major problem - when I connected the M1 to the 6v SLA, nothing happened. My first thought was that somehow it'd died, but luckily I had another fully charged 6v in my gear closet. Hooked it up, again, nothing happened. Hmmmm....maybe it's the power cable? I have another of those too! Swapped it out, again zilch.

Now I start getting really worried - maybe it's the deck. Tried hooking everything (both SLAs, both power cables) up to my D100, still nothing. It's impossible to isolate the problem, since I have 2 of everything, and nothing's working. I then hooked both the M1 and D100 to the AC Wall Wart, both powered up just fine.

Here's where things get weirder....I then tried my D8, both SLAs powered it up just fine. Then, I tried the M1 and D100 on AAs, both were fine.

WTF?

It's not the SLAs, as both of them powered up the D8, ditto for the power cables.

It's not the M1 or D100's input jack, as they both worked fine on A/C power....and they're not internally fried, 'cause AAs worked okay.

I've used both SLAs and both cables on both the M1 and D100 numerous times, and they always worked fine. What could have possibly happened?

May be some corrosion on the batter terminals that worked its way out after a few unpluggings on the SLA?

Do you have a VOM?
Start checking wires.

is the m1/d100 4.5volts? will it work with 6v?

it will until you blow the ac in on the deck.....
