I posted in one of the other forums my stroll down memory lane and all the mics I've owned. The 853SC is a great sounding cap for the price. Seeing that you're talking about missions, the 4061/PR-2 is about as small a package you can get. I currently run Neumann KK184 (card) actives and those aren't that big and can be run to a Zoom F3 with PFA for venues where you can generally walk in.  You can also look at a Baby nBox or Riot Box to power the nBob actives and run those to a PR-2 and that's about as tiny as you can get with full size capsules on active cables.  As much as I like the idea of the 4061s, they're not chatter proof so if you've got a noisy crowd, you're not cutting through that.

Hope this helps.

007 missions

How 007 do you need to be?  And how much does size of the mics matter for incorporation into your particular 007 setup?

Lots of good options laid out above.  Some larger, some smaller, some requiring supporting gear between mics and recorder.

The little rig I recently setup for a friend to use is one of the tiniest and stealthiest I've ever put together. It is DPA4061>Deity PR2.   The key to it other than the quality and tininess of 4061 is the PR2 providing a full 5V PIP, allowing the mics to go straight in to the locking input jack of the PR2.  I've not yet tried DPA 4098 supercards into it yet which I use in my big rig, which are likely very close to the 4080 cardioids, except for being more sensitive and having a somewhat tighter pattern (the tiny interference tube grid on them is a bit longer, making the mic the same diameter as 4060/1 but about 2" long overall).

Importantly, the 5V PIP of the PR-2 should also be able to directly power any of the highest quality, slightly larger DPA mics such as 4011 or 4015 when using the MMP-GR/GS preamp.  That's top quality in the smallest possible rig.

Honestly just depends on the gig. Some of my local venues I can usually walk in and I run my rig in croakies. Other venues I have to get creative as they have metal detectors, pat downs, roving guards in the crowd etc. So something like the DPA4061 would go well. Alternatively if I was going larger capsules, something that can be run in a hat rig.

Maybe go the way I did. Line Audio CM4 and a recorder that supplies phantom power like the Tascam FRAV2, Zoom F3.

And you stealth with the CM4s? Got any pictures you're able to share please?

Looks like I can get a pretty good price on a pair of those new locally, so I'm considering it.

I've used probably every small lavalier mic there is,CSB,AT 853,AT933,AT943,DPA 4061,Countryman B3,Sonic Studios DSM,Sennheiser mke -2

There all very good, but if your really looking for a upgrade in my opinion as i have used them i would say get Nick to make you Nbobs for either AKG or Schoeps(i only mention those as i have used them so can't comment on gefell or neumann)

AKG and what i currently am running Schoeps IS a real upgrade over all the small lateral mic movements.

Thats just my opinion ,i know the Line Audio sound very good but i don't consider it a big leap from your AT853 sc  which i also used to run.
