Rumble when levels are low?
« on: March 07, 2006, 09:31:57 AM »
Howdy. Here's my question:

I tape with SP-CMC8's (AT 943's) with an SP battery box line-in to a D7. Sometimes when I am taping something where I do not get hot enough levels (like a folk show or a symphony) I end up with horrible rumble, kind of like wind rumble, even though I'm indoors. In these cases I'll have the level on the D7 all the way up to 10.

I've recorded shows where setting the D7 to 10 gives me good levels (like a relativley quiet rock show) and I don't get the rumble.

I assume I'm picking up some kind of ambient noise, and the music is not loud enough to drown it out or something. Is this right? Anyone experience this?

Sometimes unbalanced wire can get noisy and make sounds when you move or shift positions...esepacially if you are using a lot of gain.
