Clamp extension pole help
« on: February 12, 2008, 08:03:39 PM »
Hello all.
I am going to get this clamp
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/298908-REG/Windtech_MPC_10_Multi_Position_C_Type_Clamp.html

I was wondering about extension poles for it.

I may clamp to the arm of my seat at a few mmw shows coming up
to be lower profile.

Any suggestions?
Thanks fellas.

I've been quite happy with my Bogen/Manfrotto 3104. http://www.camcor.com/cgi-bin/cat/id=1191508730&src=fg

I use it with a clamp or to extend my 3373 FOB stand. With velcro ties, it fits pretty snug to the folded 3373 which is great for traveling. It's a pretty compact alternative to lugging around a large stand. It's not a great festival set up. I have a much bigger Bogen for those occasions.

The gear pictured above:  Bogen Quick Release Clamp and the Bogen 3369 extension pole is what I use.  Rock-solid combo, IMO.  I've used it to clamp to theater seats' arms like the Beacon Theatre - NYC, Shea's PAC - Buffalo, the Palace Theatre - Albany, etc.   These theatres all have the old-school seats, with arms varying in size and space.  This combo has never failed me once.  Never.  3369 extends to 7+ feet.  Clamped to a theater seat, it will get up to about 9 feet.

Do it!   ;D

7+ feet? Perhaps my 3104 will be YS bound.  :P I might just have to upgrade.

Got this

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5160-REG/Bogen_Manfrotto_2909_2909_Super_Clamp_with.html

and this

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/74314-REG/Bogen_Manfrotto_237HD_2896HD_Heavy_Duty_Flex.html

for Christmas.

I really like the rig.

superclamp is great but the  quick release" c " clamp does better with old theatre seats like the beacon theatre.  I tried the superclamp before I used the bogen quick release " c " clamp but it did not fit well enough on the seat so i went with the quick release " c " clamp as show in the pics above.  I also have the heavy duty flex arm and that is great also, but not high enough to get over the crowd to about 9 ft.

Wow!
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I am thinking the 3369 extension pole.

The bogen c clamp looks as if you can only use the extension arm when clamping vertically.
Is that right?

The reason I chose the windtech c clamp was because you can change out the little stud
through the vertical hole and horizontal hole.

Do you get excessive rumbling noise from the crowd while using this combo? I think Moke posted to watch out for that a while back and I have been fearful of ruining recordings because of that, otherwise I'm ready to pull the trigger on your suggestion.

i  have a super clamp and the windtech clamp. i would not trust the windtech with an extension pole plus mics. it works great just for my vert bar and mics but i wouldn't want anything that could cause excessive leverage. if you bumped it with an extension it could fall. the super clamp and the others mentioned are much more sturdy

The screw on part on the windtech is not long enough for the 3369 to attache to it

Kush,

I have never had a "rumbling noise" situation with the QR/3369 combo.  Never.  And I've recorded with it  under a balcony, in very congested seating, while dealing with loud intoxicated concert-goers.  A real keeper, IMO.  Can't go wrong.

The picture above was actually from the Gov't Mule run  at the beacon theatre for NYE, I thought the 3 nights came out good.  I dont hear any vibration in the recording. Shockmount seems to work well.  And it is a rowdy crowd.  I taped from 5th row Warren's side. On the other end of the pole is
