mp2 & 722
« on: November 26, 2005, 04:34:02 PM »
Since these are both sound device's boxes... how do they compare?  I'm moving from the mp2 > sbm1 combo to a 722 as soon as it comes in the mail and was wondering how people classify the difference in pre's.  I'll be running the two with splitters, just for comparison sake in December a few times.  I've been a pretty big fan of the mp2 sound with my mics and think the 722 is an upgrade on that, but haven't heard a side by side comparison of the two.  Are they that different sonically that it's not worth comparing?

Thanks!

I was a big mp2 supporter as well...loved it with the mod sbm1...comparing the 722 to the v3 and the mp2->mod sbm1 (only point of reference I have for my own rig), I think the 722 is less bloated on the low end than the mp2 is, and is a bit more detailed in the mids and highs than the mp2 is....basically more detail to my ears, but not sacrificing the transformer sound that I liked about the mp2...so somewhere in between the V3 and the MP2->Mod SBM1

Thanks Nick.  I need to pick up some XLR splitters soon so I can do a before and after with my mics.

yep, very interesting. And a close call I would bet, based on having run the mp-2 a ton, and heard a bunch of 722 as preamp shows.
