Nice post, great story.

I employ NY compression on most releases these days. I really like the sound of Tokyo Dawn Rose (TDR) plugins, and use Kotelnikov compression and NOVA active eq for this.

An idea on eq that helped me a lot - with bottom-up parallel processing,, you'll hear the compressed track mostly when the primary is quiet, so using a traditional 'loudness' approach to eq'ing the compressed track can make sense.

Kicking myself for not applying [principles & tips laden throughout the thread] far earlier. So much good info, here -- just started utilizing the techniques and liking what I'm hearing. I suck at setting a compressor myself but I've found success with the ReaCOMP NY Compression preset mentioned upthread.
