Talentcell 12V Battery and Sound Devices 722
« on: July 27, 2019, 08:43:17 AM »
I have a Talentcell that I originally used to power my V2 and based on a thread here I decided to try it on my 722. Not using it to power both the V2 and 722, just one or the other. Worked great on the V2. Would run it for days. With the 722, once the charge indicator on the battery drops one light the 722 battery icon starts blinking a low voltage warning. Not sure what the low voltage setting should be on the 722 for an external battery. The lowest setting is 10V. If I drop it down to that the warning stops. Any Ideas?

id ask SD what effect powering with 10V has on specs. in some designs lower voltage just reduces headroom slightly

I also think I have battery issues. The Talentcell won’t fully charge, no matter how long I leave it plugged in.

Edit 1: Per the manual the 722 can run on a 10 - 18 VDC 2 amp minimum. It then shuts down when the external reaches 9 volts. It will auto switch to the rear Lion if one is attached. Setting the warning threshold indicator to 10V which is the lowest setting is probably OK but will check with SD anyway. Also figured out the charging issue. I was using the wrong charger. I really need to mark these things. So many of them.

Edit 2:  talked to SD today. He was unfamiliar with the Talentcell but said as long as it meets the specs in the manual it should be OK. Setting the low threshold warning to 10V is also ok. Im running a test now to see how long it will last. Like I said it ran my V2 for almost 3 days straight.

Edit 3: in case anyone is listening, the Talentcell mentioned above ran the 722 (cf card only) for over 12 hours continuous and still had two bars lit! One of these days I’ll check the card to see how long it really lasted.  :coolguy:
