instead of the talent cell, here’s an l mount battery that does usb c and dtap:

SWIT LB-SF65C L Series NP-F... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BGBLVHVL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Thanks, but that's lower capacity than all the NP-F batteries I have now, and the 788 burns though them pretty quickly with 4+ mics connected.

I want to power the 788 primarily with a large capacity 12V battery connected to the hirose input, and have the NP-F batteries as hot swappable backups.

One of these may suit your needs along with this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KK8MY5U?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&th=1

Those batteries all have a barrel input only, and the output voltages are not a constant 12V.

In any case, I just purchased the battery I linked above.

That battery didn't work well with my Mixpre 10!  I use the Maxoak K2 instead.  I use this cable with both batteries.

https://www.amazon.com/SZRMCC-Sound-Devices-Recorder-Hirose/dp/B083RFSQ63/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1Y5GRXLJFC35L&keywords=Hirose%2Bto%2B2.1mm&qid=1702303928&sprefix=hirose%2Bto%2B2.1mm%2Caps%2C81&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1

When you say it didn't work well, do you mean it gave you an insufficient power warning, didn't last very long, or something else?

Thanks for the recommendation on that other one. I saved it in my cart in case the Talentcell doesn't work with my 788. Other than the larger capacity of the K2, The 12V output is only 0.5A more current, and the 788 hirose input only needs 1.0A min.

When running the talentcell with the MP 10 II the battery would almost immediately drop a bar.  It usually lasted a show, but that didn't set well with me.  I've also seen them die without warning.  Happened to a friend and he ended up running his mics into my deck.  I haven't had any issues so far with the Max oak and have run it for an entire day at a festival.  The Max oak K2 is much larger, but I've gotten use to carrying it and never worry about power.

Got it. Just to be clear, are you talking about this specific Talentcell, or the brand in general?

Yeah, the same battery

it prob pulls so much current it drops the voltage, same as with any other Li-ion. I wonder if two talent cells would play nice in parallel. would more than double the runtime

Well there's apparently a deal on the K2 battery jbell on Amazon starting in 17 hours, so I'm just going to go ahead and order it then. The Talentcell will be here Wednesday, and the K2 not until sometime after Christmas but that'll give me plenty of time to compare and return what I don't wantbefore the very long recording session I'll be doing for a choir festival in mid-January.

The K2 is $79 on the Max Oak website!  I might have to grab another at that price

Price on the Maxoak just dropped to $79 with an additional $30 off coupon!

EDIT: It only lasted 15 minutes at that price and I was able to snag one. The regular discount still seems like a great deal, though.
