Topic: Small Phantom power

Hey!

I've been using a Danecke PS-2 with mini output for phantom power but would like to find anything smaller/less obtrusive. Any options?

Had 2 Tinyboxes. Both of them now with dead batteries and with the lack of support from Naiant I was hoping a new solution would have emerged last 10 years but seems like there is not much new if anything to consider? :/

Doesn't the Zoom F3 have phantom power. Are you looking for something you can use low profile? If so, how low profile? What kind of rig are we talking about here?

I second this recommendation. The F3 is overall a bit smaller than the PS-2, which only gives you power and then you need a separate device for your recorder. You will need to power the F3 from an external USB power bank for longer concerts, however.

Or a fair bit shorter if you cut the bars off your F3 as several ts members have done

Although not exactly what you asked about that's likely the right answer, making for a simpler rig with no interconnects needed and only one device to power.

sonosax m2d2 is pretty small

phantom, digi in/out, its own battery, analog out usb audio and usb power on separate connections

use your existing recorder or go smart phone or DAW via usb audio

If yes then this is another strong reason to go with the F3 I guess?

Yes, but in practice it won't matter much because the signal will be balanced all the way to the denecke as well, so the only interference risk is from the power supply to the recorder.

Yes, but in practice it won't matter much because the signal will be balanced all the way to the denecke as well, so the only interference risk is from the power supply to the recorder.

But as soon as you go mini plug out from the PS-2 the signals become unbalanced, no?

Sure, they're unbalanced from the power supply to the recorder.  You still get interference rejection for the distance from the power supply to the microphones.

What Grawk said.  There is a lot less "undesired antenna" in the short interconnect between PA-2 and recorder than between mics and PA-2.  Now, if you haven't ever had occasional problems with electrical interference that's probably not a compelling reason in itself.  But eliminating the extra box and gaining a positive locking XLR connection from mics directly to the recorder is very compelling to my way of thinking.

The Sonosax m2d2 kindms mentions is a really good option, but is significantly more costly, and will require a recorder or phone.
