McMaster-Carr offers PVC and polypropylene tubes. Is there a preference for mic capsule storage?

Also, are they private labeling for Schoeps? If so, do we know why type is used?

The PVC tubes work great, and are much cheaper than the poly versions. All my full-size mics are stored in McMaster PVC twist tubes.

I will caution that if you have capsules without a “screen guard” like my mk22, you will need to make sure the inside molding does not protrude enough to damage your capsule. I had to grind mine down with a dremel file after it put a small mark on one of my caps.

This is in reference to the McMaster Carr tubes to clarify. No issues with the Schoeps tubes of course.

the vials are supposed to be used with axial address end against the foam in the cap, and serial number/threaded connection against the visible outer container, thats how schoeps has always shipped them as far as i can remember

Another option if you are worried about damaging the capsule: I put desiccant cylinders between the capsules and the ends of the tubes.

I also use the McMaster Carr PVC tubes for both full bodies and also extra capsules (the 2-3" ones did the trick for me); there was at least one other thread on TS--and maybe even a Voltronic post, specifically--that opened my eyes to this option.  In lieu of dessicant cylinders, I bought some polyethylene foam and cut out rounds to act as padding/shock absorbers and to hold the contents snugly in place.
