Title: new mics, sp-cmc-8 with Omni caps?
Post by: antotape on February 24, 2023, 08:27:48 AM
Hi,
new here but long time taper. I have been off taping for a while and returning to record shows recently.
My gear is my old trusty mm-hlsc-1 senns MK40s still going strong, Rolands R-05, R-07. Battery box "mint box" and a new sp-spsb-11.
I bought a pair of new cardioids from SP the cmc-8 coming next week, i did liked the sounds i could listen from shows.
i find convenient to be able to change the caps for omnis when needed.
Question is, how does sounds the AT omnis (sp-ese-o) caps? Can't seems to find any sound samples
Or should i build a set with senns MKE omnis, which will cost me much more?
I'm on budget so no dpa caps  ;)

Cheers, A

Here's a recording using the omnis you're asking about: https://archive.org/details/ttb2012-02-07.sp-cmc-8.bighouse.flac16

Awesome, thanks for the link!
Sounds promising and very detailed, the vocals are not too distant and it's not too bassy.
i'd like to have croakie mounts with the omnis to be closer to the set, will have to see if the AT caps are not too big for that.
