Doubler lens specifications
« on: January 15, 2008, 10:44:37 PM »
Luckily, I will have the great opportunity to use this awesome camcorder:

Unfortunately, the 13x zoom may be a little lacking for my concert shooting needs.

I'd like to use a doubler lens.  Firstly, how do I determine which lens is compatible with my model of camcorder?  I'm ignorant in this regard.

Then, I'm aware of the different results in different doubler lens, so buying a $30 one from bestbuy probably won't look so nice, will it?

I could use some basic info on what lens specs to look for and in general how it will effect the camcorder's otherwise, very good quality.

Actually, a quick look at wikipedia says it reduces the resolution by a factor of 2.

So does it just come down to a preference between picture and zooming ability?

I don't anything about camcorders, but I'm pretty sure you're not looking for a teleconverter.  A teleconverter sits between the lens and the film plane.  I think you want a "conversion lens," specifically a telephoto conversion lens.  It would thread on to the front of your camcorder's lens, perhaps with an adapter to match the diameter of both threads.

Raynox makes decent conversion lenses.  You may not find an exact match for that camcorder, but if you contact them I'm sure they can help you find compatible lenses.

I just checked BandH and I'm not so sure they even make doublers for the HVX.  Scroll down on this link and check out the prices on the wide lense and fisheye, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/381410-REG/Panasonic_AG_HVX200_AG_HVX200_3_CCD_HD_Format.html#Add%20On%20Lenses
I'd venture to say a doubler for an HVX, if it exists, will be in the $$$$ range.

You can probably find all the info you need at dvxuser though
