I need a low-profile replacement for my light stand / mic stand.
I want to get something between the seat and armrest of a typical folding theater seat so I don't block the aisle.
Something that will raise and lower about 6' to 7' would be perfect, but 5'-ish should work.
I would gaffer's tape it or hand-hold it vertical.
What do you suggest?

Do I need any special adapter or spacer beyond what I'm using with my light stand?

I use a Manfrotto 3 section extension pole (099B, I think) and it works very well. I usually bungie it.

^^^ Yup, I think the 099B is your friend. Pair that up with a superclamp and one of the short extension bars (6" or so) so you can make an "L" with the 099B and you have a reasonably tall, stable and reliable way to go.

I think the Manfrotto pole would be best for you as well.
I do have a monopod and while I didn't pay for it (got it in a trade), I really like it because it has legs that screw into the bottom where it can free stand. I wouldn't rely on it being exactly stable but it does a decent job with my camera. It's more expensive than the Manfrotto pole so it may be best and more useful to buy the Manfrotto.

If you don't mind looking like an A/V nerd, I use a sunpak monopod (5' 1") and have a spider brace ace bandaged to it. Without the appendage, the footage normally sways side to side if hand held / hand braced. Alternatively I've ace bandaged a mini-tripod to it for roughly the same stability in a smaller package. I like the spider brace though as I can fly the monopod like a pole and the spider brace tells me where it's actually pointed since I can't really see the 3" LCD from 6' out.

Thin, long, and might even be serviceable to top my current stand for big venues.
Ace bandage! Didn't even think of that... :hmmm: I might make a shorty ratchet strap, like on the cartopper for my board.

I also picked up one of those headphone clamps, just because I'm a sort of gadget collector. That on my mic stand and the camcorder on a table mount tripod, clamped the headphone clamp makes for an interesting one piecer of sorts. Not of use out doors because it'd sway in the wind. But if you want to travel small / light. One way to rig up audio and video in a cramped space.
