just seeing how well they fit in there, the 15's look a lil weird, i have seen them together in person, but i just need reassurance that they are nice and strong/sturdy together before i sink another 100 bux into this hobby 8)
thanks,
bean

Bean, I have the 8415s with my Octavas, and they will work fine. Just do it man. ;D
-
do you know the diameter of the oktava's???
the 480's are 21mm
-
Nope, but I hear they're smaller than the AKGs (they're the same width as my neutrik xlr connectors).

nice, thanks john, so i bet the 480's would fit nice and snug huh?? :)
do yopu have a pic??
looks like they just "sit" in there, unlike the sambra's, which are intangled in there

Here's the best I can do. If you give me a while I can take a few at home...

The 8415s are solidly built, just a different animal than the 8410s. Not held in by a spring-loaded latch, instead the mics hover in the rubber-bandy basket. You could run 'em crossed-over like the Sabrasom's, but it'd be a *really* tight fit. No need to crossover IME with the Oktavas (which are 19mm btw), and don't think you'll need to with the AKGs.
The 8415s are a looser fit than the 8410s and require you to secure your cable off the XLR jack otherwise the cables will pull the back of the mics down. But you should be doing securing your cables, anyway.
Why the change?

Sorry for the ignorant question, but what is "securing your cables"? Are the cables secure in the picture above?

Yup, check out the green velcro tie. Keeps the weight of the cables from pulling the back ends of the mics downwards.

Got it - thanks! Been doing that but they still sag a bit - I'll try wrapping the velcro a bit tighter next time.
-
If you can actually get the cables to go UP before they go down, that's one way of taking the stress off the cables - imagine if your mics are pointing to the right, the mics make sort of a "9" shape, where they go out to the left, circle back around and then go straight down.

brian, i am just sick of the sambra crap, i need to upgrade but am torn between the shures and the 15's......
looks like i'll go w/ the 15's for now, they can be resold easily
