These were made for Joe W:

Just like mine, but these are 2ft long.
it takes some time to learn how to do the RT-A XLRs b/c they are a lot harder than the straight ones.
-
Thats cool, how is different inside the right angles that makes them harder?
-
well, you have to deal with a 90 degree angle. getting the 3 cable ends exactly the right length and then being able to get them into the connector and soldered requires a few hands. luckily i am a mutant and have 3 hands! LOL
-
excellent. Thanks again Jon. ;D
-
joe, we still gonna do the trade tomorrow in athens?
-
sure. give me a ring and we'll set up a time when you are gonna be there.
-
Wanna make me a 20ft pair in purple ;) Sounds like you are getting good at this! Sweet!

I'll be trying my hand at this this week. JessedScott ordered up some cable and connectors and it's coming my way....I hope I do as good a job!! :)
-
if you guys need any advice, drop me an email, pm, or im, i dont mind walking you thru it.
one thing to remember about the neutrik connectors is that the center part that holds the pins is plastic, because it is an excellent insulator; however, it also melts with very little heat to it, so be careful with your iron and get a very small tip.
-
OK! BC, I placed the order w/ Markertek today! Everything we had talked about is coming. He( sales guy) said to BE CAREFULL when crimping the cable. He also said that when using Canare cable, you should get the Canare Crimp Hand Tool which is $80 and the Die Set which is another $80. It's not a MUST he said , but it will help. I'm sure this can be done w/o the Canare tools. Rabhan, did you have any problems with the "crimping".
*** NOTE*** The guy I talked to on the phone knew exactly what I wanted after I said Canare Starquad cable. Quote " Do you want Silver or Black and Gold Neutrik connects, right angle or straight? TOO funny!
JDS
-
WTF are you talking about? crimping? hand tool? die set? this guy must have thought you wanted triax and not mic cable. sheesh! just get some solder, and iron, and a bitch to wax you, no need for a hand tool!
-
WTF am I talking about? WTF is he talking about? I just repeated what he told me????????????????
JDS
-
dont call him again! LOL
just use the online ordering system or know your part numbers, these ppl prolly have no clue the parts look like, they just read the sheet with the part numbers and the item's name. for example.....MK4832.....Dilly Wacker........they have prolly never seen a dilly wacker before....get my drift?
-
I've seen the tools for sale but have no idea what they do or why you'd need them. A crinmping tool and dies usually means some type of connector is needed....having done electrical line work (same thing just MUCH bigger wires ;) ) I know what the stuff is but don't see how it would be used here.
Anyway....GREAT news Jess...I'll keep ya posted!! ;D
rabhan...thanks for the heads up on the plastic!! If I get in a jam you can be sure I'll be PMing you! ;)
-
i still think that the person who you spoke with was thinking you wanted triax and not mic cables, and thats my final answer
-
Jesse talked to the guy so I don't know....but there seems to have been a communication breakdown somewhere. ;)
-
LOL! Nope, I made sure that it was Star Quad 4-conductor mic cable # L-4E6S OE, that would be orange ;) ;)
JDS
-
I thought you were kidding about the orange cable :P Well....I guess no one will walk off with them ;)
-
Yeah, you'll be able to see them from miles away. ;D
JDS
-
orange and purple? you guys want chartruse also?
-
my local music store made some mod's to some existing cables I have with right angle conncetors, $8 a piece for the conncetors, and $3 for each piece to be soddered and put together, not a bad deal
-
not bad at all. the connectors are about 6.50$ online, but then after shipping, you are close to eight anyways, and 3$ per end is a great deal! just check the work on the inside and verify that you got clean connections, it also couldnt hurt to check for conitnuity and do an ohm test, all that if you got a DMM handy. either way, i think that is awesome they did it for you!
-
this local music store has been in Rochester forever, the guy that does the mod's is a real pro, they test it out and everything with this box that will tell them if there is a short or imbalance some where, for the price I was shocked, but it was funny, after I paid the guy that did said he will have to rethink his pricing on right angle mod's since its such a pain in the ass.
-
yeah, they are a PAIN IN THE ASS!
straight thrus can be done with my eyes closed, but those damn rt-a's, once you get them, they are leet!
-
Nice work on mine Jon! They are Hella sweet.......I'll put up some pics tonight of my frighteningly similar setup ;)
-
hey joe, you get that upload i sent you? also, no need to offer bittorent on the charlie hunter, i am up'in it to my server and anyone here can email or pm me for a login!
-
orange and purple? you guys want chartruse also?
I've got a 15' pair in purple and I really like the color ;) I think Daryan can also vouch for the fact that star quads, in purple, are the way to go! ;)
-
yeah, i am just messing with ya. i am one of those guys with actives who cant run bright cables ;)
-
Jon, you want to make a nice little pair for a youngster like me? I'm going to be getting rid of the USBPre here in a little bit, so what your making with your three hands is right up my ally! hahaha +T to you man!
-
PM or email me and we can work it out.
-
hey jon. I'll prob. still offer up that charlie hunter anyway. I really like it. I've just goofed to this point and haven't put it up.
Joe
-
Jon....you weren't kidding those right angle xlr's suck!! SO hard to work with!! >:(

-
now try and use all 4 as rt angles, 2x the bitch!
i can only imagine........i am getting mentally set to do this in a couple of weeks....... 8)
+T for doing the hard labor, jon........ ;)

i just made a few more sets of cables, it does get easier, i would say that after the 5th set, you can expect to get quite proficient at it. my time has gone from 1hour per set to about 20mins per set. ;) ;) ;)
-
Jon are you putting R A's on both ends? When are you going to start your Mic Cable buisness? Go with Orange!! ;D
JDS
-
yes, right angles on both ends, what is the point of only one end?
check these out:
1ft pair:

2ft pair:
http://rabhan.com/images/gear/2ftrtangle.JPG
orange on both or orange and purple pairs? gotta know L from R ;)
-
OOOO, we(well BCostigan) just did orange. Should have done 2 different colors. Next time. Your pics look great!
JDS
-
thanks man! the thing is that with short cables(interconnects), colors are irrelevant, just need to know the L from the R, whereas, if you have like 10-20ft cables, i can see the want for different colors. however, what is the point of RT-angles for long cables? if you have to set up your gear with full bodies mics, then you are already gonna have a long setup and teardown, why rt-angled xlrs?
-
i have always run actives, so i dont know, please fill me in...........
-
i have pair of both straight.......i would want one righ6t angle going out of my mic so the cables run vertically down so i can just strap onto my pole.....wheras, when i run straight cables, i have to make sure there is enuf slack on my cables up by the shure bar, w/ right angles, i would not have to worry about that and everthing on the stand (cable wise) would be a little more low-pro.......i would want straight cables on my male end (pre) for the simple fact that they would be bent otherwise (i found the PERFECT bag to run straight cables into) but would love a pair of : straight male, RT angles female.....and rt angle > rt angle just for phun.....sorry for rambling, but you asked.... ;)
bean
-
yeah, that makes sense, that way you dont have to loop them up top
-
exactly..... ;)
bean
p.s.- jon, when i get the cables/neutrik ends, will ya guide me thru it??? ;) it would be MUCH appreciated..... 8)
bean
-
sure man, not a problem.....
hrmmmm, should i have an xlr cable soldering class at 'roo? ;) ;) ;)
-
that would be most cool.......wish i would be there...i just dont prefer the lineup compared to last year......i would rather do the NE minus any dave m...... :'( but IMO of course......anyhoo, i bet you would get more geeky tapers there than expected, including my self if i was going, which would be righteous..... ;)
bean
-
i missed last year, and i also agree that last yr's lineup looked better. however, what concerns me is the stage schedule. last yr's gave you time to hit one stage to the next with 30mins of time. this yr, there is no time, one band stops and another starts on the next stage and they got some of the better acks all playing at the same time. i am not happy about that. :(
-
i pheel ya........superfly need to let ts.com do the lineup/set times...... ;)
it would be a lot cooler/taper friendly...... 8)
