Not sure if you were in the brief thread on pf or not but I just went the SSD route this past week.
I picked up a pair of these Intel SSD's
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167023I'm running them both in RAID-0 and have a few regular drives in my machine as well. For the record I am only planning on using the SSD drives for my OS and programs only. No data storage whatsoever on them.
Windows 7 (x64) installed perfectly within 15 minutes from my USB drive. Programs installed include Adobe CS5, Soundforge 10, Vegas Pro 9, Wavelab 6, TLH, CDWave, Office 2007. Not one single problem.
Now some thought on the SSD's.....
I bought some good drives, not the cheapest nor the most expensive. Read any review or comment based site and you can read about how big the technological leaps are in the right now drives as opposed to drives made even six months ago. Go with the newest drives you can afford instead of bottom feeding on discontinued models. The two SSD's I bought had manufactured dates of 6/18/2010 so less than two weeks from being built to being in my computer. They had the latest firmware as well. One of the main advantage of Windows 7 IS the built in TRIM support although there are drivers for Vista/XP/etc for it as well as drive firmware updates (make/model depending). The other being that most of the newer SSD's are 'advanced format' drives meaning they use 4kB sectors. So again no problems and all the benefits running Windows 7.
It now takes longer for my BIOS to post than it does for 7 to load completely. Around 30 seconds from push of power to a workable desktop. Programs take less than two seconds to load.
