Is this a shift back to original sound or is it just like the c451b

"Sound of the legendary C451 EB + CK1 capsule"

It appears it is a shift to the older EB model. Did that stand for "extended bass"?

Ruler flat response doesn't look ruler flat to me.
Looks like +5 at 10khz. To me this would be like all the rest of the modern 451.. somewhat strident.

Beyer MC930>Fostex FM3>NagraSD
Couple of Schoeps CMT441 too.

E = pad
B = bass rolloff

I'm psyched that they are making ck1's again.     :realhappy:

spyder9, they never say anywhere that this actually is a CK 1 capsule; they repeatedly evade by saying "sound from the CK 1" etc. I wonder if it's even an externally polarized condenser like the original, or whether it's an electret as in their "reissue" C 451 B.

They also say that the original was from the 1980s, but I was using C 451s in 1973, and they weren't exactly new then.

--In AKG microphones of this period if I recall correctly, an "E" suffix indicated an XLR output connector; alternatives included "C" for Tuchel and "L" for Lemo. A pad switch was often present on models with "B" in the name, if there was such an available version, but the "B" clearly referred to the low-cut switch.

--best regards

Thank you DSatz.  When I saw ck1 and capsule in the same sentence, I  must admit I jumped the gun.

i wonder if the original 451 caps will work with this 65th anniversary body.

never mind, i think i found the answer.  looks like the 65th anniversary has a fixed cardioid cap.  too bad.

According to a review in the german "Professional Audio Magazin" this mic is technically identical with the C451B -> electret capsule.
