It is not a tall stand. If you can get it for 20-30 bucks, then it's a good deal.  8ft is plenty if you don't need to get up over the crowd.

You'll need an adapter to mount your t-bar on the top of that connector.  Use the search and you'll find several options.  Micsupply sells an adapter for very little money.  http://www.micsupply.com/standaccessories.htm, 7th from the bottom.

I just got one of these guys, for about $20 shipped. Bulky, kinda large foot print, but gets the height. A bit over 9'.
