Help a Newb...
« on: February 03, 2006, 02:06:29 PM »
Hi.  I'm new to the forum.  I'm looking to get involved in the fruitful hobby of taping/trading.  I'm looking for a minidisc recording device,  around 200-250.  I'm kinda broke.  I've read alot about this Jb3 however i cannot find it anywhere for sale.  Could somebody point me in the right direction.  I'd like to record the shows i go to sbd, or using the mics i have.  thanks in advance.

A search for "jukebox 3" on eBay can help you. You should also be able to find many MD-recorders in that price area on eBay or for retail.

For that range, why risk used when you can buy new?  (I sound like a Hyundai commercial, oops  ;D)  If there's a Fry's in your area you may be able to pick up a new Sony MZ-RH910 ($199.99) with full warranty/store return option.  It has decent line/mic inputs, 20-bit AD/DAC chip (dithers to 16 on PCM, keeps 20 on ATRAC3plus) and manual level adjustment during recording.  The package comes with a 1GB disk, good for 94 minutes of PCM.  With the new Sonic Stage 3.4 software, you can record optical digi-in and convert to WAV.  At this price point, nothing else comes close AFAICT.

Good luck!

Fry's is a large electronics store chain that has most of its locations in the
western USA.  Before internet sales got going, Fry's was one of the
few stores that carried every type of computer and networking gizmo,
plus the componenets to build/repair your gear.  Today, you can
find just about everything sold at Fry's for less from some online
source.  It's still fun to visit Fry's, however, and they often have
super bargains on sale items.

You can find the Sony MZ-RH910 Hi-MD recorder for about $170 from
several reputable online sellers.  For example, check out www.jr.com
or www.bhphotovideo.com
