MR-1 Question.
« on: July 05, 2007, 01:47:49 PM »
I was running multitrack over the weekend (13 channels to my laptop) so I took the main out of my mixer and plugged it into the MR-1. The battery was real low so I plugged the MR-1 into a usb on the laptop. Seemed to be recording along just fine then I looked over to see a blank screen with a faint backlight... I unplugged it and watched till it faded and shut off.  I plugged it back in... it came up and once again started to record only to do the same thing again...

I think the usb doesn't have the poop to charge and record and it just gave up.      Sound right??

AFAIK it doesn't charge at all through the usb, only through the dc jack.

Edit: Stole this from keyboardmag

PROS:
Both models set a new standard in audio fidelity for mobile recorders, with outstanding dynamic range, detail, and headroom in 1-bit DSD mode. AudioGate software makes converting file formats dead simple. Stereo mic included with MR-1 sounds surprisingly clear and full-range.
CONS:
MR-1 won’t charge over USB, and internal battery is not user-replaceable.

- DSD:
Direct Stream Digital refers to the way in which 1-bit recording represents audio, which is with a continuous stream of ones and zeros (bits) that aren’t divided into 16- or 24-bit chunks.
-PCM:
Pulse Code Modulation, the prevailing method of turning audio into numbers. It’s used in everything from the cheapest CD players to high-end digital audio workstations and dedicated analog-to-digital converters.

Didn't Los Lobos just play your neck of the woods? Maybe not your thing but I know your not really hurting for chances to run a rig. I can't wait to hear a sweet 1 bit matrix...cold shivers just thinking about it.

yep, I confirm: the only way to charge the battery is the power adapter. No usb power.

From Dana (chinarider)

Los Lobos came out really well.  The 24bit is amazing, the 16 really good.  They had some mexican songs like always but had a great Papa was a rolling stone jam and Evangiline -> La Bamba -> Good Lovin' -> La Bamba at the end.  I thought it was a very good show.

Besides the tech crew I think Jacob and I were the only 2 there that were not indian or mexican.  It was sort of strange... between the sets everything going on was in spanish.  I don't speak any so I had no clue what was going on 1/2 the time.
