Topic: Akg 414 and Pelican 1060

Been trying to figure out the best way to fit these mics into this pelican.

it seems to me that sideways - grills facing in a 69.  any input here?

I went the cheap way and bought a plastic padded pistol case for $12 and it works great for mine. as long as there is padding on all sides you should be fine. good luck.

Yeah exactly.  I use a doskosil 2 handgun case.  I took out the center foam completely the 414s fit in there next to each other mounted in the H85 mounts with bif neumann screen and the free space stuffed with a tie-dye tapestry that nick sent me.  Works great and is small enough to fit in a backpack.

already got the pelican.  i feel better with it on the motorcycle.  so any suggestions on the pelican. i think i got it figuered out, but havent plucked it out yet.

On a motorcyle, I'd prefer the pelican too.

My only suggestion is to try and keep the foam depth even all the way around each mic.

If you have room, you should consider doing what I did and fit the mics into the case with the shock and screens attached.   I use the windtech clamps to verical mount to the stand, so I leave the windtech studs in the H85 in the case.  It cut down my setup time and he mics and shocks ride securely.  You'll have to pluck more foam to make room for the big screens but you'll also decrease the chance of tearing the screens by not having to pull them on and off all the time.

I didn't use a pelican but something similar.  I ran them 69 with the stems touching.  Kinda hard to tell by the pic but I think you can get an idea.

The only thing I'd suggest with the pick n' pluck is once you have your spacing set, separate it and pull out the whole piece, from top to bottom...once it's out, it's easier to judge how deep to cut it.  Cut it with an exacto, and then just stuff it back in.  This is really helpful with the deeper Pelicans...sorry if this info is obvious...
 

I had my pair of 414's in a 1060 as well and it worked out nicely, also had them in a 1150 at one time.

Dimensions of the 414 are roughly L X W X D  In inches 6.5 x 2 x 1.5 so based on those dimension, I have determined that the two following hard cases would be a good match:
