I finally made the move to PC audio and i love
having all my cd’s on hard drives with instant access and
the automated backup to other hard drives.
Here’s the rub....i started the PC audio setup to get rid
of all the discs and burning and back-ups. I only have a handful
of commercial DVD-A’s and SACD’s (just my very fav artists) but
my own recordings and other taper’s 24 bit shows i started to
put on DVD-A, but not wanting to start a whole disc collection
all over again now i am just leaving on my hard drive and playing
from there.
So what are people doing with 24 bit files?
My setup: imac intel optical out > glass toslink > grace m-902 >
psa hca-2 > von schweikert 2100 or senn 650 (cardas)

Same here - PC-based FLAC playback for 16- and 24-bit audio. Decided not to bother with DVD-A when I went with 24-bit recording.
- Office: Foobar > Bel Canto DAC 1.1 > Blue Sky Media- or Pro-Desk (currently in transition, hope to grab one of these in the next week or so).
- LR: Squeezebox > Sony STR-DA3000ES > Von Schweikert VR-1s (soon to be VR-2s, should be here next week...can't wait to give 'em a listen!).
AFAIK, you'll have to keep your SACD media and player, though, as I don't think there's a way to rip/playback SACD via computer.

I'm starting a slow transistion to have all of my music stored on my hard drive.
There's a way to rip DVD-A to HD, although I'm not sure what it is, if you google enough I'm sure you can figure out how
SACD = SACD player only. Thanks Sony
nice 24 bit soundcard > receiver

all you have to do is copy/paste using explorer. then check em w/ md5's if your paranoid.

What does the Squeezebox do with 24/96? Downsample, truncate, or does it just refuse to play them thought the digital outs? I know 24/48 is supported.

Downsamples on-the-fly to 24/48.
