this is a small comp of these 2 different mics

tracks are from the Widespread Panic show 10-04-2005 Memphis, TN.

Neither sources have been seeded before.

source: AKG c414b xls/ST (omni) > V3 > D8
AKG 482 > V3 >D8
2nd row of section, DFC, 3' slit on t-bar

Anyone else having trouble with the torrent? Kicks off, d/ls okay...then slowly reduces to 0 kbps over a few minutes. Stop torrent, start it again, d/ls okay...then slowly reduces to 0 kbps over a few minutes. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

I'm going with #2 for the LDs. Man, that was really hard. I was expecting a more noticeable difference between the two. Gotta love AKG omnis though.

I think that source two is the 482's. Source #1 just sounds a little more colored which
I would think leans toward the LD's off axis response. Both sound really good, and this was just listening on my
computer monitoring system, not the full on stereo.

i think source 1 is 482. i like source 2 better. not sure why, cause they do sound alike. that said, i like my source better.

Only a quick listen, but I'd say:

1 = 482 - crisper HF, LF not as meaty, better transient detail (sounds "faster")
2 = 414 - attenuated HF relative to 1, meatier LF, less transient detail (sounds "slower")

In this case, I prefer 1. Sounds to me like the venue was too big and the section too far back for the LD omnis to really shine. Unless, of course, I'm wrong on my guess, in which case - great location for the LD omnis!

the section wasnt *that* far back. we were raised above and directly behind the sbd. mud island is not very big. i ran u89(subs)>v3 and it is not distant like you'd figure LD's to be too far back. i agree w/ your conclusions, you just say it better.
