Hi-
Newby here, and my first post on TS. I've Been paying attention and patching in for a few years and just finished getting a rig together not so long ago... Nak 300's+cp1,2,and4> MX-100 (w/center channel "line level" mod for sbd matrix) > Oade SBM-1> Sony D3.. So far so good!
I've noticed more recently that the XY, ORTF, DIN, etc. techniques aren't being used much anymore. Just for example, I saw a local taper using 4011's, pointing them directly at the stacks.. I've noticed similar set-ups ever since..
Now i usually go ortf when up front, din when I'm behind the sbd.. Tried this "direct" method at an outdoor show once.. Not bad at all.
So my questions are, what technique is it called? Why is it preffered over the others? And what diferences would be expected between running it at clubs and larger outdoor venues?
Thanks!
