Try these tools.  I've used them to recover deleted files from my hard drive.

Sweet thanks.  Did you use file recovery or data recovery?  Also, is there a high success rate?  Thanks.

It should work, as long as nothing else has been written to the drive since you deleted the files.  I use their file undelete program, R-Studio.

I was thinking.  It sounds like this R-Studio is geared towards computer harddrives.  I wonder how I would go about using it on my JB3.

slight typo in weazel's post...he meant "chkdsk /f".

I'm not sure if the jb3s operate as a removable drive, but if they do it should work the same way.

If that is the case,  just get to a command prompt (on a windows machine just click 'start' then 'run' type 'cmd' and click 'ok'.

Then change to the drive that your iriver (errr...jb3) is on...and type "chkdsk /f" and it may recover the files...

I think it be recognized as a removable drive if you have updated drivers.  I updated my drivers a while ago, and it magically appeared in windows explorer as its own drive, with a drive letter assigned.  It's even got a little icon that looks like the JB3.
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

Interesting.  I'm not sure I have updated drivers though.  Will that affect something?  Thanks guys - I do appreciate this help.  I'm still waiting to test out the advice.

You probably wont see it in windows explorer unless you install the Nomad Explorer.  Here's a link to it from nomadness.net :

It looks like Creative have taken all of the Jukebox 3 stuff from their site, or either moved it somewhere else?

let me guess.  you got your nomad back from DMB management, after they deleted the IEM files you made, so now you you want to get them back?

i guess you still don't get it...

you do the math

someone was busted by DMB management last monday for recording the In Ear Monitor feed with a sennheiser box and a nomad.  it got turned over to management.  apparently there were a bunch of shows on it (around 8 gigs?)

there were some posts on some message boards about this, and someone named "FightTheGoodFight" made some shady posts pointing fingers.  now he's here asking how to recover 8 gigs of data off of a nomad?

seems fishy to me, though i could be wrong...

He was arrested and the venue wanted to press charges.  I haven't gotten the final update on what's going down since they got the JB3 with the recordings on them.  Last I heard "DMB Management" was still reviewing the recordings.

we'll see who's fighting the good fight if I ever see this dipshit taping iem's at a dmb show.  The band has the best taping policy of any major act in the industry, and pieces of garbage like this can't even respect the very reasonable restrictions they put in place.

I guess we have to contact dmb management now and let them know you're attempting to recover the illegally obtained recording they deleted, huh smart guy?

fucking toolbag.

* edit to say that this is obviously assuming it's the same guy, and it would be a helluva coincidence if it isn't.

Wow this IEM topic really gets you guys fired up!  I was wondering how some would justify running FOB/stealthing compared to this questionable activity?  Not trying to open worms, just curious about different opinions..   >:D

It's easy:

1. Stealthing isn't tapping into the band's private conversations with each other.
2. The band has a very generous taping policy, with very few restrictions.  Ignoring those restrictions is a slap in the face to a band who has been very generous to the trading/taping community.
3. In the past, the presence of IEM tapers at DMB shows have caused legitimate AUD tapers to have their bags searched and, on occasion, there equipment messed with.  It also almost caused the band to disallow taping entirely.

Very interesting.  I haven't visited this thread in a while.  First off, I am aware of the DMB IEM situation.  I am in no way affiliated with that though.  For anyone that cares, here are the 7 shows that were deleted from my JB3:

04.24.05   Guster   Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse, Bradley University, Peoria, IL
04.27.05   Tristan Prettyman & Jason Mraz   Braden Auditorium, Illinois State University, Normal, IL
05.04.05   Weezer   Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, IL
07.14.05   Howie Day & Gavin DeGraw   Lakefront Pavillion, Chicago, IL
09.29.05   Umphrey's McGee   Canopy Club, Champaign, IL
10.21.05   Michael Franti   Canopy Club, Champaign, IL
11.10.05   O.A.R.   Fox Theater, St. Louis, MO

I originally posted this thread after I got word from my friend in Missouri, who works in Data Recovery, said he might not be able to pull these shows back.  So, I turned to TS to provide another avenue.  Obviously this has snowballed into much more.  I hate having to explain myself, but it is necessary after these accusations against me.  If anyone wants to continue to badger me, do so only because a few of these shows are stealth recordings.  That is all for now.

The JB3 is in the mail to me as we speak.  I plan to give the R-Studio software a try.  If I'm able to recover any of the shows, I'll be sure to post here as I release them.

not exactly.... this kid was involved.. his name has been making the rounds in reference to the DMB incident.  The fact that the JB3 is "in the mail" to him and has deleted data on it is also too much of a coincidence.

According to Fedex, the JB3 should be here tomorrow or the next day.  Assuming I'm able to recover any content from it, I'll be sure to post a clip for you to hear.

you probably wouldn't have been stupid enough to get busted in the first place.  Besides, this isn't the guy who got busted, apparently he just supplied all the equipment.

I know I'm sounding like an ass-clown, but what is an IEM file?  And what's the problem with them?   :newbie:
It's the In Ear Monitor feed that the band uses onstage.  Each band member typically has their own mix and aside from the music that the crowd hears they include all the inter-band chatting that is not meant to be heard by the crowd.  Recording it is an invasion of privacy and is frowned upon by many bands.  It became a major problem for DMB back in 2001/2002 and they adjusted the taping policy accordingly.  It has caused numerous problems for legit tapers who are often hassled trying to get into the show with gear or during the show by security if they suspect someone is using an IEM to record the show.

DMB is not the only band having this problem... U2 is another one who's having issues with it.

Thank you gentlemen.  I learned something new on this board daily.

I think that is totally wrong to be tapping into the IEMs.  A little to personal, IMO.  How does a taper know where to plug into to get such a feed?  Has to be an inside job, no?  PM me with the answer.

Thinking aloud, I wonder if George Bush has ever authorized the IEM recordings.   :o   >:D   ;D

I have an analog tape from the early eighties.  I'll have to dig for it.  You can hear Mickey blaming Bobby for making him f*ck-up on a song.  Garcia chimes in and says, "Nah, nah, nah, Bob were not blaming you for f*cking up."  That must be an IEM of some sort.  Its the only SBD I have where you can hear their conversations on stage.

It's an analog radio signal broadcast thru the venue... all you need is a receiver (one of the boxes the band uses)... you can buy them yourself.

why people even want to grab an IEM tape is beyond me.  The mix is far from desireable....

Try to help someone out and look what happens... This exemplifies an issue of hard drive-based recording.  If you're caught being a dumbass and they delete your files, they aren't ever really gone (Even after formatting there's still a chance to recover).

what you describe is an ALD not an IEM....both tend to sound shitty though...

What I described is both and ALD and IEM... it all depends on what your "receiver" is and what signal you use.

assisted listening device for concertgoers with hearing problems.  it's essentially a soundboard feed they can tune into with heaphones.

Thanks Heath, is this a common offering among rock/pop concerts these days?

Yes. It is required by law if I'm not mistaken (the ALD).

Sorry misunderstanding...  I said "broadcast thru the venue" in my post and I meant "throughout the venue" :-)

Creative uses a proprietary file system so JB3 recovery would indeed be interesting. It's something that they cooked up inhouse primarily to prevent hacking of the device.  :tomato:

If the DMB has an even marginally competent computer person,  they could easily wipe the device such that not even the NSA could recover the data.

proprietary ???   there wav files.
be no diffrent than trying to recover files from a laptop harddrive (which is what it is)

He might mean that the file system on the hard drive itself is proprietary (not fat16/fat32/ntfs/etc.).  So probably if you take the hard drive out of the jb3 and try and stick it in your computer, it wont be recognized.

BTW, Hope you had a great christmas Nick!  :)

I see.  My misunderstanding.

I thought it used a fat 32 file system because of the 2gb file limit.

Please let me know how if you can. I was busted last night & had files deleted by security!!
