Topic: Can you sync an r44 with a sd7xx unit

Sorry if this has been posted but is it possible to sync a sd7xx unit and an r44 clock so one can be the slave and one the master like linking 2 7xx units for easier matrixing?

Yes, send the digital out of the R44 into the 7xx (702 and 722 anyway, not sure about the others). On the 722, using the menu, select analog input on the XLRs (I forget the exact menu options, maybe analog, digital, auto-select).  The 722 will record from the XLR inputs, but will sync to the clock from the digital input (the R44). It should show a "D" or "L" or something on the 722, I forget exactly.

This will allow you to record 4 chanels on the R44 and an additional 2 channels on the 702/722, all synced to the same clock off of the R44.   Note though, this will not do anything in terms of syncing up the start and stop times of the two decks, so you will still need to line up the 7xx recording with the R44 recording.

I have tried on two different shows to set up a sync on the 7xx units.  And after failing the first time I even called SD tech support.  It is not intuitive and the menu selections just didn't seems to match what I was looking for.  SO twice in the field it was a fail.  I would suggest two things, practice at home, something I could not do since the 744 was showing up at show time and second, I heard that even once you do set the options in the menu you need to do a shut down and start up for the menu options to take effect.  good luck.
