Topic: Question about the SD 702 Firewire

So I'm looking to get some more gear and get back into taping (it's been a few years now).  Right now I'm thinking DPA 4022s > SD 702, but I have a question about the 702.  Has anyone used the firewire port to record to an external hard drive with it?  Are there any issues?  I already have a few firewire hard drives so the 702 looks like a perfect match for me.

No but I believe Fozzy got one working with a 722. I've also heard of people using a firewire CF card/reader as a backup, which is the route I'd go before an external hard drive.

You should not have any issues. However, you will need a battery solution that "tricks" the 7XX into thinking it is running of AC power...ie....external battery power running into the hirose AC plug (12+ V). I do not think the 7XX will allow recording to external media if using only "internal" batteries (8+ V). As mentioned above, you *might* be able to run a CF firewire card reader and get away with it using only "internal" power, but I would not count on it being bulletproof. I am just going off what I remember reading on SD support FWIW.
