"Foul"? I call it informative.

All flash media degrades over time with use, particularly if you only do a "quick" format. That doesn't erase or overwrite the data, nor does it check for bad sectors. This is not device-specific.

Doing a periodic full/erase format is mandatory practice for any flash media in my book.

Ooh, you are 100% correct. I misplaced the adjective!
Fixed this for me:

I'm hoping somebody here might be able to help me with a fault in my Tascam DR70D recorder. I'm guessing it's quite a rare problem, as I haven't been able to find it discussed in other Tascam or Gearspace forums, although I haven't checked the entirety of this forum (but a search hasn't exposed it) ?

The slim Power on/Hold slide switch on my unit has suddenly lost the spring return capability .....so it is now just loose in its movement track, and therefore I'm unable to power up the unit.... as I can't hold the switch down (against the usual Spring resistance) for the required few seconds.

I've removed the lower base cover plate, closest to the switch, but the visibility is poor close to the switch, and I can't see (nor guess at) how this spring mechanism might operate: whether it's a leaf or coil spring for example ?  There was no loose spring to be seen at all.

Does anyone have familiarity with how this switch operates, and thus any suggestions of how I should tackle this fix ?

I've been able to remove the sliding finger grip from its movement track, but there's no sign of any Spring mechanism for it to work against.

The recorder was working fine prior to this, and I don't want to discard it if there's a possible repair I can make.

Thank you for any advice you might have (or any source for pursuing additional information)... with much appreciation !

I ordered the DR-70D a week ago and spent the time awaiting its delivery reading all 8 parts of this thread.  I feel like I went through all the ups and downs since its release along with everyone here, just time-shifted.  Glad to hear it sounds like FW issues are sorted and can't wait to start rolling.
+1 Team Dr-70
