we have had this discussion before i think jonny.  haven't seen you at a show lately.  maybe i just have that rig figured out and have no problem dialing it in everytime.  dont know about oade pre's, but i am down for sonosax, believe me.  i have the comp tapes.  and maybe it is all preference in sound taste? who knows.  maybe mr. languedoc doesn't know shit either with his racks of 801's @ 5K a piece.  you run high end mics? you got to have the high end pres.  mike grace is top of his game.
