UA5 Static while recording

(1/1)

RRobar:
Hey all,
I figured I try here as well.
I just got a UA5 and did some tests last night with my mics and got it to take sound in on the first try. Listening to the tests (me and my son Ben playing). There are occassional little pops in the recorded wave. No I turned off all non needed apps and the Ua5 is the only usb device attached. I went through and except for reformatting the drive and setting up partitions I did everything listed in the Tascam optimising laptops for audio. It was late and I did not have full time to experiment but Originally I installed the mme drivers. But then cool edit would not recognise the full functions so I unintalled that and put on the wdm drivers (1.0 that came with it). I noticed there is new drivers on the edirol site 1.1 I think. I'll put those in tonight. But it had full functionality. But I only tried 16/44.1 so far. I guess the asio drivers are supposed to be better but I fear Cool Edit Pro does not support them. Id like to try out wave lab 4 but am limited on cash. Anyway, does anyone have any ideas.
The laptop is a 2.4 Ghz P4 w/ 512 DDR Ram running windows 2000 pro sp1. I'm going to go and install sp 2 today on it, I had heard to stay away from sp3 for audio apps. But if I need to i'll install it to. I have time before any major shows I just would like to get this irone dout before to long

Well with the help of many. I got it working flawlessly on 16 bit stuff. WHich for now is very cool by me. Here is the link in which I was given with which services to turn off for different uses. I set mine to "Safe" . This is essential for the win2000pro users out there. The tascam stuff helps but this did the trick. ANyway, here is the link if anyone cares:
