I'm looking to replace my old boat anchor Eco-charge 12v batteries for my AD2K+ - these things weigh a ton and are losing their life, so time to upgrade to 2011 technology. Just wondering what options are available out there? Will the DVD batteries folks are using power this thing for a reasonable amount of time? I have a couple of them for my DR-680 but am wondering about the AD2K and compatibility with these batteries, or else other expertal battery options folks can suggest.

DVD batteries only go up to 9v, and you need 12v. When I ran the AD2K, I was using the Tekkeon 3450. This could power it for around 3h:

Somewhat expensive, but they are a nice size and they are reliable. The other nice thing is that it has a USB out that powers a device with 5v, so you could power 2 devices out of the battery.

Also not inexpensive, but much longer battery life than a tekkeon. This is what I use.

The Battery Geek battery I have has three outs:1-DC out,2-the charge(in) can also do DC out,3-also has a 5v USB out(like the Tekkeons).I owned 3 Tekkeon extended batteries for years,finally bought from the battery Geeks.I love these batteries,easy to use.To make a long story short,I won't be buying Tekkeon anymore.They have any capacity size you need,I have this one:

Yup, same model. I have two of them.

For 12V I run the following:
- Tekkeon 3400 I picked up on ebay for $40
- BG 10-14-88 - predecessor to the BG-10-14-100 and 10-14-115 - You can get these used here for about $50-60
- Eelctrovaya 15-24 V batteries with DC-DC convertors down to 12V (only buy these used/NOS and only if you know alot about these - i.e never buy them with swollen cells (can have swollens cells NOS - stored improperly), non-chargable, etc - these batt's are great if you know how to run em but take a beating if you don't) - I picked up a 330 Wh 24V batt for $75 on ebay and a 160Wh 24V for $30.

Amen to that. For a single show the tekkeon is fine, but for a festi situation it's a waste of time, go with the batterygeeks I say.

Even for a single show, at 12V for the AD2K, the Tekkeon lasted 3 hr. When I taped the Crowes in Dec, I had it running the entire time and it conked out on me right before the last song in the encore. So you have to be conservative with the power, turning it off when not in use. Either that, or get a 2nd battery or the external pack, but then you are bulking up.
I've looked into that BatteryGeeks option, but I could never justify that $435 price tag to my CFO (my wife). If you have the $$$ that is definitely the way to go.

The 10-14-100 that i use is only $200. Not cheap by any means, but less than half of what you quoted. Not much more than a Tekkeon, but with much more power available.

I use a tekkeon 3450 w/ the extended pak. I also have a Brunton Impel http://www.google.com/search?q=brunton+impel&tbs=shop%3A1&aq=f that i got for $130 of ebay but have not used it yet.

Thanks for all the input...the budget can't afford a $200 battery right now, so I guess I either rely on the Eco-Charges for a while or hope for AC power, which I usually can get at most spots.

That's definitely more in my budget, although looks like it ends up being closer to $100 by the time you buy the charger, which is sold separately. How long does that thing power an AD2K+ or similar?
