Title: comparing H4N quality to common condenser pairs?
Post by: lastnightsverse on December 29, 2021, 01:27:32 AM
Currently using a pair of AKG P170s with interface + laptop at local jazz clubs where there is plenty of room & permission for me to have an entire table. I want to be able to go to more clubs where I don't take up room so i'm thinking about getting a H4n. how would you compare the sound quality? is it worth it? and is it really as easy as sticking my condensers into the zoom if I want to take it upa notch?

I suppose it depends on the preamps in your interface. Probably about the same quality wise. One less piece of gear to carry though.

A local guy has done A LOT of recording with the P170s.  He used to use an H4n, and I think he may have more recently moved to an H6.  Check out his stuff and that should give you an idea of the P170 + H4n combo: https://archive.org/details/@thespacefish?and[]=subject%3A%22AKG+P170%22
