Title: Mic Setup for Solo Singer/Guitarist that Plays Electric
Post by: vantheman on June 02, 2022, 11:07:45 PM
I’m thinking about how I might set up for an upcoming event with a singer who will be plugged in / amped and playing electric. Not your average solo acoustic performance. If the mics are on stage, I imagine it’ll sound weird if I try to capture both the vocals and amp. I’ll probably have soundboard access. That begs the question - mic the amp or mic the vocals? I could mic both separately, but then I figure what’s the point in not just going all sbd. I’m thinking that what I may want to do is mic the amp for some stereo qualities and mix in the mono vocals from the soundboard later. That way, worst case scenario at least I’ll have clean guitar and vocals from the soundboard, but I’m interested to hear what you all think. I don’t think there’s any chance he’ll pick up an acoustic guitar or I’d be tempted to position the mics for the vocals.
