Hey there everybody,
Over the last couple of months I have really been considering some real good stereo playback equipment as my next big upgrade. I know audio basics very well, and a fair amount about home theater playback. But I have never learned about or explored the world of high end stereo. If I am going to invest in good stereo gear I a not gonna go cheap, but will not have anything like $5K to spend anytime in the near future. So I am wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction to start to learn about different components, brands and types of gear. I am in no real hurry to put a stereo system together but i want to start learning so I can figure out what I might want and what I might have to scrape together to make it happen in the next 6 months to a year. I have a pretty nice taping rig right now IMO, and before I go for new mics or 24bit I want to really be able to hear all that I have going on right now.
So...where can I start?

Just use common sense on the audio boards.
There are some poseurs and psuedo-scientists around.
Also allot of solid, helpful folks.
Remember that it's your ears that count !
Get to a club or a good dealership to hear for yourself, if at all possible.

Good call, it would become ther gift that keeps TAKING. Taking money from your bank account, taking time from your wife, taking time from your friends. Yup, high end stereo, it's what all the cool LONELY kids do ;D

I know. I have the best of what Bose offers, but alas now that I have started really listening critically I have decided that I need to go for stereo and not surround and that I want to so something that is a bit more stereophilistic(is that a word?). I am talking nice bookshelfs or smaller floorstanding and thinking that an integrated tube amp is the way to go. So what I am looking for is well outside of what my company offers and far beyond my audio expertise.
I have shared my opinions before about our product and stand by my conclusion that for 95% of people out there our products are more than enough to meet and exceed their performance needs. And for those that have no idea what they are doing with electronics our Lifestyle systems really do offer the best performance, and simplicity combination on the market, but I am just look for something a little different here.
