Title: AT822 insides
Post by: poorlyconditioned on June 06, 2006, 07:43:49 PM
Anyone wonder what is inside the AT822?

It has two nice (!) electret elements and a simple "emitter follower" circuit that runs off a low voltage (1.5V) AA cell.

I've ripped the head off and I'm just going to keep that.  Power with either Minidisc plug in power, or battery box, or both.  This is still a work in progress.

Anyway, here is a rather poor picture of the elements:

They are approx. 15-20mm across with large vents in the back.  Note the holes only around the outside, like the Nak capsules.  But unlike the Naks, these have a gold plated diaphragm.

looks like a primo em63 capsule can you take a shot of the back of the capsule?

I've never heard of EM63.  Do you mean EM68?  That one looks similar, but not the same.  But I don't think Primo are gold capsules, are they?

By the way, rumour has it that these are the same capsules as in the AT4033, but I don't think they look the same.  (There are drawings of the 4033 insides on the AT website, and they show holes in the middle as well as the edges of the front of the capsule.  Also, the capsule does not have a hump on the back like these do.)

I'll take some more pics later...

More pics.  (Sorry, a bit fuzzy).

Rear of capsules:

Front of capsules:

The elements have no part #'s or anything, but I do see "AT" silkscreened on the back.

i like the sound of this project!
the hacked up 822 stealth job.  that would mount in a baseball hat real nice.

why cant' professional companies make a coincident stereo mic w/the elements alligned properly?
