i would think that $500 could get you a set of Studio Project C4's and a digimod UA-5, dvd battery and cable, and kind kable spdif cable. that would be a pretty decent starter set imo.
for $500 I think you should go with a set of church audio microphones and preamp. They are lightweight and make great recordings. new preamp + cardiod and omni microphones: $289http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,90474.0.htmlright angle mini to mini plug. you can pick them up for as little as $5 at radio shack or you can have a member here build you one for $20lightweight microphone stand: $40http://www.mpex.com/browse.cfm/4,4729.htmmount for mini microphones: $40http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-GNA-3thread adapter for mic stand to be compatible with your mount: $2http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-3858-ADAPTER
I was thinking of getting a Denecke AD-20 with some self powered mics for ease of concealment and portability but I mite be wrong on this outfit. Also not sure of the mic's to use with it. I'm trying to get away without using a phantom supply with the mic's. Also was looking at the M Audio Fast Track Pro in stand-alone mode but size wise I'll need a bag to carry everything. How does this combo sound. Thanks in Advance
