Topic: Bit Transparent S/PDIF from M-audio card to DAC?

Is there a utility I can get to show me whether things are being transmitted cleanly from my cheap M-audio 2496 card, S/PDIF out to Mytek Stereo 96 DAC? 
The term I've heard is "bit transparent", which I assume means that the soundcard isn't doing anything to the data, just sending it along to the DAC.  Should I even be concerned about this?
