sturdiness is really gonna be the only difference alex, unless youre running all glass and then id get glass adaptors, if they even make em!!

so id say, get whatever fits snug and tight!!!

rat shack has them i guess, so they can be had locally!!

Yeah I picked one up at Rat Shack.  Thing is so sturdy I can't get it off of my cable (good thing I don't need to). ;)

I also have used the Rat Shack adapters and they work great. No need to spend a lot of money on other. IMHO.

Alex,
Not sure about custom cables, but I picked this one up at Best Buy and its really nice and sturdy. Probably the best one I found in that price range. The Monsters look nice also, but pretty pricey.

I used that cable for a while until I bought one of the right angled miniplug ones from soundpros (I think).  Definately a good cable.

Does RS sell the right angle miniplug adaptors?  I need one that'll go from a sony optical cable (toslink)>miniplug with a right angle in it so it'll sit flat against the side of the jb3.

A few months ago I saw the mini adapters at Rat Shack that you could adjust from straight to 90 degrees.  It was fairly inexpensive and looked like it would work with what you described.

Thanks guys. The reason I want a custom cable is because my JB3 sits right on top of my hosa, so the connections are probably and inch away and I always end up having a ton of excess cable in my bag...

Haven't seen anyone that makes custom optical cables yet....the smallest I've seen are those 1.5 ft ones which I think I am going to go ahead and order one myself at partsexpress.com and it looks like a nice cable.   They have the adapters too but not right angle ones.

It looks like Core Sound says on their page they do custom lengths.

"We also offer fiber optic cables in custom lengths (up to 14 meters) at low cost -- please contact us!"

OK- I have 6 RA toslink>mini adaptors on order from cables america, and I'll put 4 up for grabs.  PM me if you're interested, they're about 2.25 a piece + a stamp and envelope.

Yeah, I had that same issue running the JB3 right on top of the UA5...often in the same bag.  I found that, with it coiled up, it really isn't a huge deal.  You're going to have some cable sticking out anyway, as you shouldn't coil it all that tight (forgot what diameter Core-Sound told me).  Though, a 1m cable is a bit of overkill.  Sorry 'bout that :)
