Looking for a new bag
« on: December 10, 2021, 07:43:49 AM »
Looking for a new bag for all my gear. Currently using an ORCA 28. Just outgrowing it.

Looking to hold mix pre 6ii + m248 + (2) lithium battery packs + cables + mics + stuff

any suggestions for more space?

I like the Orca bags!  I also like bags with lots of storage space.  I'd go with the OR-30 or OR-32, whichever size is best for you.

I also like the ORCA Aluminum Lift System for ORCA Audio Bags (Pair) - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1445698-REG/orca_or_1000_1_new_aluminum_lifts_set.html

hot licks > microphones > recorder

...ball of confusion, that's what the world is today, hey hey...

I have that PortaBrace version similar to this Sachtler bag as well. OUCH for that price! I got mine used from the YS for less than half that price.
Good luck.
Voltronic had a thread years ago about using Walmart soft sided fishing boxes for taping gear. much less $$$ iirc.  (not fluffing Walmart, just thinking back with dimmed memory banks  >:D )
Here is a portabrace made for the mix pre6: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1350113-REG/porta_brace_ar_mixpre6_custom_soft_sided_carrying.html
This one is similar to mine but without the clear plastic cover.

Thanks for the recs.

That Sachtler Eargonizer Audio Bag (Large) looks good but real close to the orca 28 and more expensive. I prefer not straping the cables to the outside of the bag. Looking for capacity.

The PortaBrace Rigid-Frame Cargo Case looks promising. I'm also thinking of time warping back to the late nineties and going with the mountainsmith daypack

If you need *a lot* of extra space, you could repurpose some game or fishing bags and just add some padded / partitioned inserts.

The first one is comparable to the bigger Sachtler / Petrol bags and provides space for multiple recorders, preamps, USB power packs, mics in cigar caddy cases, t-bars, clamps, XLR cables etc.

For longer trips and even more gear, I've used a backpack with easy access from the back panel.
This one is similar to professional camera bags like the F-Stop Satori EXP (just a lot cheaper).

I bought mine secondhand from a local sound guy for $70. Definitely would not pay retail for these things
