Low output
« on: June 15, 2022, 04:30:23 AM »
I have this combination:

SP-CMC-8 (cardioids) > SP-SPSB-11 >  > Edirol R07. I have to put the R07 on 90 out of 100 to get some output. With my other mics, DPA4061, I don't have this problem, depending on the kind of show 30 should be enough. The SP-CMC-8 gives the same low output with other recorders, so it definitely is the mics with this battery box.

Does anybody recognize this? I've never heard from other tapers who use these mics that they have a low output. Before I consider buying a pre-amp I want to make sure something's not wrong with the mics.

If not any suggestions which pre-amp goes well with these mics?

Thanks in advance for your ideas,
Sylvia

Do you have the low sensitivity mod on this SP-CMC-8 ?

As far as I know I have the normal sensitivity,. Meanwhile I talked with Chris Carfagno of the Sound Professionals. He couldn't find my order, so he couldn't check if I accidently ordered low sensitivity, but I can send the mics to him and he'll replace the capsules, even if they should turn out to be low sensitivity. I don't have to pay for the material and the labour, just the shipping. I bought the mics in 2018, but hardly ever used them.

Talking about great service.

I’m not a 4.7 specialist, but the low sensitivity mod is not applied at the level of the caps, is it ?

Nope, it's in the cable plug. You can usually tell, because the plug is fatter than normal.

I will say that the DPA 4061s are omnis, so you would expect them to generate quite a bit more signal than cards in any case. Even when just switching from omni to card caps on my AT-853s, I typically have to crank the gain a bit on my recorder to compensate, though going from 30 to 90 does sound extreme.
