canare
« on: December 15, 2004, 02:36:34 PM »
Quick question...Im trying to upgrade my speaker cable on my stereo system..(Christmas money rox)...I have been using the standard TINY cable that came with the surround sound for the last 1.5 years...I do not have an expensive HIFI system...so i dont wanna spend 1k on cables for the 5.1  My question is....I have been looking at the DIY cat 5 speaker cable...but those look awfully BIG..and my wife would shit a brick...also...the costs of the cat 5 listed on his site..would actually run more than buying the Canare 4s11 cable from markertek.  Is this cable worth it for speaker cable?  I would use banana clips on the ends...
for skalindar (his favorite questions)

budget <$100
current system Kenwood 5.1 reciever and speakers(appx 600 at Best Buy) dont remember the model so i quoted price
Phillips progressive scan dvd/cd player
ps2(for fun!  ::) )
my rear speakers are about 20 feet from the reciever...so you can see my aversion to trying to build the cat5 speaker cables that people have built  http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=27915.0 ....TOO much time and money...not to mention they would be more expensive....AND..even if I just did the 2 front speaker and the sub....when i watched a movie on 5.1...wouldnt the rears sound SOO out of place with my reg wires in there???  If this should be in cables..feel free to move it..but i figured playback was better.

thanx

I use the canare speaker cable currently for my speakers and they were a huge improvement over the cheapies I had with the speakers before.  Use them bare (no banana clips...been too lazy to put them on), but I noticed a huge improvement, specifically with bass response.  Nice value for the money imho

The cat5 cables are very nice, but probably not worth the amount of work you'd have to put into making them.  Try the Canare, anything is an improvement over cheap speaker cable.

the canare's are a little bulky, but not too bad (esp. compared to the cat5s).  They sound just fine and are pretty easy on the eyes, so you should be good with the Mrs.

I've been reading the various post in the playback section about canare speaker wire.  Seems like the most cost effective DIY cable for your speakers.  I'm going to be hooking up my 5.1 system this week and wanted to ask a quick question before ordering the bulk canare cable.  Should I order the normal canare or mini canare?  Links below:
-
Canare L-4E6S Star Quad 4-Conductor Microphone Cable - (21 AWG) $0.36
http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=L%2D4E6S+BK&off=0

Canare L-4E5C Miniature Star-Quad (0.189" O.D.) Audio Cable - (23 AWG) $0.33
http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=L%2D4E5C+BK&off=0
-
Any othe suggestions for ordering the canare cable?  Better price and/or customer service?

Thanks,
Todd

Moke, thanks for setting me straight.  Did not realize they had seperate canare for speaker wire.  I found the following:
-
Canare 4S11 Speaker Cable - $0.69
http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=4S11&off=8

Canare 4S6 Speaker Cable  - $0.24
http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=4S6&off=9

Canare 4S8 4-Conductor Speaker Cable - $0.48
http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=4S8&off=10
-
Now need to figure out which one(s) I need.

Thanks,
Todd

I got mine for .69$ / ft....

I must say...these cables kick ass compared to my old monster cheapy cables from best buy...WOW!

also, IF you do order this...and you have 6-8 ft left over...i would love to snatch this from you, as I didnt order enough..and paying 6$ for a handling charge on 6 ft of wire(when its still 6$ handling for 60 ft) is just ridiculous...

Congrats on the new cables.  It's amazing how much of a difference decent cables can make.
