Your best photo while taping....
« on: March 23, 2007, 07:01:10 AM »
I just have an old 5MP pentax which I take to every gig, take 30 odd photo's and get a couple of worthy ones. So my ceiling isn't too high from the get-go.

But this is my favourite and probably best one that I've taken while taping:

Baba Maal July 1998 Roseburg Oregon http://www.sonicstudios.com/babamaal.htm

What I find amazing is not that this image is so great technically (low light, hand held softness), but the lighting is simply from a large light bar above the stage.  Notice  'effect' of energy emanating from Baba Maal's hand, and "spiritual aural glow' above the heads!  Very weird!

I especially like the way the tapestry forms a kind of halo around the musician's head!

I just shot this last week at the moe show in KC.  It's my MBHOs, Kelly's AKGs, nedstruzz Schoeps, and I can't remember the name of the guy who's mics were on the other stand.  Fun show.  I shot this thinking of this thread...

A quick low quality photo taken just a few days ago at a 'free in the park' outdoor Los Lobos concert is a scene not viewed before or to happen to such an extent at this venue.

Los Lobos is primarily a really GREAT DANCE BAND. NO problem with people wanting to dance nonstop while this band plays! For some reason, this Roseburg Oregon audience was unusually reluctant to even stand. SO, to get the crowd on their feet and dancing (at end of set 2), Los Lobos band invited audience members to stage-dance with them.

Within moments from when the below photo was shot even more people jumped on stage filling the stage so much the band was blocked from view AND the entire on-the-ground audience was on their feet dancing.  Way to go Los Lobos!

awesome....

I saw a similar thing happen at a Bruce Hornsby show 5 years back.  he envited all the girls to come up on stage (state theatre, portland ME).  this was the tour w/Kimock.  it was fun to watch.
show sort of sucked though.

Everything you do through out the day, every thought and every feeling leaves an impression stored inside you.
These impressions create tendencies, their sum total is your character.
