Topic: Transferring shows to Macbook.

Hey guys,
 
       I have a few Hi8 cam masters that I would really like to get to DVD. But I have no clue on how to transfer video as I am a bit new at the whole thing. I have no idea what cable to buy and googling the subject is a bit difficult. Also, I want to capture some Formula one races onto my computer as well from the TV when I am not up at midnight. so I need the RCA cables (Yellow, Red, White) to the other end of what goes into my computer (if possible).

I have iDVD and iMovie HD. Hopefully someone can shed light into this question. I appreciate everyone who reads this message and helping a helpless soul...
