A buddy of mine had a laser disc player back in like '93/'94.  It was awesome.  I remember watching Apocalypse Now over and over on a massive screen at ungodly volumes.

I had one.  They look like CDs but, the size of an album.  The early ones you had to flip the disc.  The later units would play both sides.

It's crazy to think about... Can you imagine what an uncompressed video player would look like these days? It would need to have a built-in screen because there would be no outputs, and when you were done watching the movie, it would incinerate the disc. :)
