Title: [COMP] R09 vs. V3 A/D
Post by: it-goes-to-eleven on May 15, 2007, 02:00:48 PM
Ran above the stage on saturday and figured I'd throw this comp out there....   Didn't quite get my mics positioned where I wanted but such is the challenge of on/above stage...

Nomo @ Blind Pig

mk21 NOS above the stage > v3 > microtrack @ 24/48 and r09 @ 24/48

Thanks for the comp.

I like "a"  more than "b", better detail and the low end doesnt sound as loose as "b"

My guess is that "A" is the V3 AD.

Preferred 'B',
Horns sound better defined, more sense of space around them at the beginning & end. The high end seems more transparent making the voices at the beginning and end clearer.
I like the more natural low end too, 'A' sounds tight and impactful but not as natural.  Overall not as involving.

Um, it's the R-09.

[edit- nice Afrobeat, 'Nomo' huh? regional?]

SPOILERS FOLLOW!

A= V3 > R09
B= V3 > MT

I thought it was interesting that those who preferred A believed that it was the V3 A/D 4:1.
While the three who preferred B all thought it was the R09.    Kinda curious.

Wow, that's really suprising.  As a happy r-09 owner I'm ashamed I voted 'Prefer A and think it is the v3 A/D'.   :-[    Thanks for doing this.  +t

I've been biting my tongue during this comp.

We've had two comps now where v3 > r09 has been decidedly preferred over the v3 a/d. That still surprises me..  The first comp was a mono PA so there wasn't much sound stage to judge.  And that first comp also lacked bass, something I've been critical about with the r09 (vs. the 722).  But this comp had a lot of both.  Though I did find the above stage placement lacking in depth. But I often find NOS with subcards lacking in depth so that isn't surprising. Still need to try NOS @ 110 degrees..  I really like how ortf cards capture depth up close.

Another factor that may add to the significance of the r09 preference.. I even ran the r09 incorrectly in this recording.  With the trim at 1 there was attenuation going on and it is definitely Bad attention that can result in compression (as confirmed on bench test).  I'm thinking the r09 would have sounded even better at 8.

I was the sole voter for:  Prefer A and think it is the r09  I'm stunned.  I was second guessing myself after I voted, especially after hearing your Aerco vs V3 comp.

I think the voting has been locked and I did not vote so I cannot see the voting score. Can someone put the voting score here so that people who didn't vote can see the numbers? How many in total voted for A and how many in total voted for B?
