Still trying to figure out what to buy. I NEED to get my DAT's to my notebook and would LIKE to have the capability to use the same device for PC recording. Which of these products would you recommend? If neither, what would you recommend? I'm trying to cap the price at around $300 new, but would prefer to buy used. I have USB 2.0 and 1.1 and PCMCIA slots, but no Firewire. I'm staring at my boxes of tapes as I'm writing this and it bothers me more with each passing day that I'm the only one who can listen to them.

if you're just looking to transfer dats i'd go with the emagic emi2|6 which can be purchased used for around $150 - $200. its bit perfect, doesn't require external power and can handle up to 24/48. another option you might want to look into is the vx pocket which might be a better option if you're eventually looking to move to using the laptop in the field since it won't take up as much space. i'd personally stay away from the ua-5 if i was strictly using it as a means of tranferring since it resamples and takes up more space.

The emagic is now named a26 or a62. UA-5 is not bit perfect...

Also the emi 2|6 handles 24/96, not just 24/48. ;)
