finding correct samples(start & stop) to compare .wavs?
« on: December 16, 2003, 08:33:24 PM »
i am trying to do some testing with a new coax > optical converter i bought. seeing if it is bit perfect.

i am running the mme > sf 6.0 on my desktop and the mme > converter > jb3 from the coax out of the mme

i need to get each wav trimmed down to start and end on the same samples so i can compare wavs with eac

how would i go about doing this? i have sf 6.0 and eac

Are you testing the Hosa ODL-276?  Or is this the on you picked up from D?

[1] Open both files in SF
[2] Find roughly the same spot in each file *
[3] Zoom in bit by bit, re-adjusting to make sure you're looking at the same section as you zoom in
[4] When you get to the point where you can view the properties for each individual sample (at least this is how I do it in CEP), find a sample in one file and bounce around in the other file until you find the same sample

* I find it's easiest to pick a spot in the recording where there's a clear peak and then drill into the highest/lowest sample of that peak.  As you zoom in, the difference between the highest/lowest peak is less and less noticable, but if you look very closely it's fairly easy to pick them out.

Okay, gotcha.  I won't be able to test the AES pro output > ODL-312 > optical until after Xmas, just so you know.  Stand by, please...   :)

I didn't search extensively, but yeah - Full Compass had the best price of the ones I spent the time to find (zero results on EBay search, past and present).  Something like $50 shipped.  Looks like the -276 shows up on Ebay occasionally, so if you wanna wait you may be able to save a few bucks there.
